
Dr. Nadim Farajalla is ChiefSustainability Officer at the Lebanese American University (LAU), a role heassumed in March 2024. He leads the development and implementation of LAU’ssustainability strategy, advancing institution-wide integration of environmentalstewardship, climate resilience, and social responsibility across academic andoperational domains to strengthen the university’s long-term impact.
Prior to joining LAU, Dr.Farajalla founded and directed the Climate Change and Environment Program atthe Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at theAmerican University of Beirut. His work focused on climate change impacts onurban systems and the water–energy–food–climate nexus, with particular emphasison adaptation planning, resilience building, and evidence-based policy support.
He holds a B.S. in AgriculturalSciences from AUB, an M.S. in Irrigation Engineering from Utah StateUniversity, and both an M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from theUniversity of Oklahoma.
Dr. Farajalla has also held seniorpositions in the private sector, including Senior Scientist at StoneEnvironmental, Inc. (USA), Senior Environmental Engineer at Dar Al-Handasah(Shair and Partners), and Founding Director of the Land, Water and EnvironmentDepartment at SETS International. His professional portfolio spans waterresources management, environmental impact assessment, and infrastructureplanning.
He has authored numerouspublications addressing water scarcity, climate adaptation, and environmentalsustainability across the Middle East and North Africa.
